Light Stone Gallery

Typology: Earth Science Gallery

Size: 800 sqft

Location: Columbus, OH

Date: Spring 2008

Instructor: Jose Oubrerie

The use of stone gabions as a thick skin to diffuse a clearstory light in the main gallery and a screen on the above deck. The quality of the stone contained in the gabions varies to allows for a differentiation in the perceived thickness of the wall. The light in the gallery is softened as it diffuses through the stone and casts shadows. The use of stone as a lighting feature presents a unusual disposition for the material allowing for the characteristics of the stone to be reexamined.
